A Treatise on Ruptures & An Account of a Particular Kind of Rupture, frequently attendant upon New-born children; and sometimes met with in adults; viz.

£180.00

Percivall Pott (1714–1788) was a significant figure in the history of medicine, known as the first to link cancer to an environmental cause. His Treatise on Ruptures became a standard reference for decades. It deals with hernias, then called ruptures, specifically inguinal and femoral hernias, which were common but poorly understood and often mistreated in the 18th century. Pott's treatise helped push treatment toward more rational, anatomy-based methods and away from quackery or overly aggressive surgery.

Gift inscription on front end paper reads Alfred Jukes by home this book was presented to Thomas [Chaufe]. Jukes was a surgeon born in 1792 and served in Bimingham General Hospital and research suggests he passed away in 1843.

Very Good Condition. Half bound in leather with marble paper. Contemporay binding. Binding is firm and pages are lightly tanned. Neat gift inscription on front end paper. Boards are clean with minor marking to spine head.
