Early Victorian popular songbook compiling a vast treasury of broadside ballads, sea shanties, comic ditties, and regional tunes from the Regency era. With over a 1000 naval, love, comic, Scotch and Irish Songs. Hand coloured frontispiece and title page. A truly rare book with only a few in institutional holdings. Many of the folk songs included have been completely forgotten and information on any of the songs is scarce. Please read condition report.
Condition:
Fair Condition. Printed paper covered boards. Both boards are attached but are loose due to splits along spine joints. Previous owner has attempted to repair the spine with tape which has started to split. Internally the binding is slightly loose. Pages are clean with minor tanning and spotting. Front end paper is loose. All pages are present. Notable bumping to boards with some peeling and loss to paper.
