The 1838 edition of The Tour of Dr. Syntax presents William Combe’s famous comic poem accompanied by a fresh suite of lively wood-engraved illustrations by Alfred Crowquill. This version revives the early 19th century favourite for a new audience, with Crowquill’s playful designs. Dr. Syntax is a mock-heroic, narrative satire following the pedantic clergyman and schoolmaster Dr. Syntax on a quest for fame and fortune. 

Good Condition. Full calf binding with gilt pannelling to boards. Marble end papers. Gilt edges. Book has been rebacked. Ex libris plate to front pastedown. Binding is firm. Pages are moderately tanned and foxed. Binding is clean with some bumping to corners and light marking to spine.
